Zip World Instructor Simon Prepares for the London Marathon in Aid of Parkinson’s UK

After a life changing diagnosis in 2017, Simon decided to take matters into his own hands...

We'd like to introduce you to Si, one of our incredible instructors over at Zip World Slate Caverns.

Being an ex-paratrooper and a keen climber, Simon has always lead an active lifestyle, supported by his role as an outdoor Zip World instructor! So when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2017, the news came as a huge blow to himself and his wife, Jude.

1 in 350 adults are diagnosed with this neurodegenerative disease each year in the UK, on average 2 and hour recieve the news. Currently, there is no cure. But that doesn't mean that nothing can be done. Simon and Jude signed up to Parkinson's UK charity and have agreed to raise £4000 between them.

How will they do this? The London Marathon of course! During his time as a paratrooper, Si vowed to never run again, following a fair few intensive years of the sport! But here he is, pushing on for an incredible cause! Him and Jude have been undergoing regular training to get up to speed, ready for April's marathon. Jude, before the training, hadn't ran long-distance before, but is doing incredibly well according to Simon! He's very proud of her.

And we couldn't be prouder of him- rather than letting this diagnosis take ahold of him, Si has fought and pushed on, deciding to raise funds and awareness for this incredible cause.

If you'd like to help Simon reach his target, don't forget to head over to his Just Giving page here.
