Dig deep and expand the mind as you head underground to the impressive, historical Llechwedd Deep Mine. Explore the slate chambers and learn everything there is to know about the mine’s past, the workers’ lives and about the interesting process of slate mining and how it’s changed over the years.

What to expect from your experience
So what’s involved in the experience? Here we’ll talk you through each step of the process for ultimate peace-of-mind, and you’ll see just how accessible this adventure really is!
Check-in
The first step of any Zip World adventure; arrive half an hour before your adventure start-time to check-in at reception and settle in.
Helmets
The all-important bit; selecting your hard-hat! Once checked-in you’ll be pointed in the direction of the train station (this is a very short walk from reception), where you’ll grab a helmet and meet your tour guide.
All aboard
Step onto the big yellow underground train where your journey begins! There’s space for 4 people in each cosy compartment, and the journey to 500ft underground will last around 90 seconds. Don’t worry, this is not a fast-moving experience.
The tour
Once you’ve reached the underground platform, your tour will begin. You’ll be guided through history via chambers and tunnels, listening to interesting facts and stories provided by your guide along the way, as well as see first-hand the original mining equipment used in those chambers, and see demonstrations of how they were used. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions of course. Each chamber holds its how story and beauty, not to mention the awe-inspiring underground lake.
Endgame
Once you’ve spent at least an hour soaking up all the Deep Mine has to offer, you will be guided back to the train where your journey began, to alight once more and ascend the shaft to the daylight. Drop your helmet off at the top, and you’re then free to explore everything else Zip World Llechwedd has to offer.

When should I arrive?
You will need to arrive on site ready to check in for your experience 30 minutes prior to your adventure start time.
What should I wear?
You will need to wear warm comfortable clothing suitable to the weather on the day, with walking boots or trainers. Some of our experiences require your arms and legs to be covered, please check individual adventure restrictions to see if this applies to you.
Can I protect my booking if I need to make any last-minute changes?
Yes, you can purchase ticket protection insurance at check-out which will allow you the flexibility to make a last-minute change or cancellation.
Can I book over the phone?
It is quicker to book online, but you’re welcome to call us if you’d prefer; please do so on 01248 601 444. Please note there may be a wait time on the phone, particularly during busy periods.
Is Zip World open every day?
During holidays, we are generally open every day, and always on weekends. During off-peak seasons, please visit our checkout to see our booking calendar and our opening days.

Do I need to book in advance or can I just turn up?
We’d always recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. If you turn up without a booking, we will do our best to fit you in, but cannot guarantee this. Please be sure to book in advance if you’re travelling a distance to visit us.
