A Welsh climbing legend joined us at the Tyn-y-Coed for our very first light switch-on event, in aid of Ogwen Mountain Rescue. Filled with Christmas carols, festive food and more, it was no doubt the perfect evening to commence this year's festivities.

CHRISTMAS COMMUNITY LIGHT SWITCH-ON AT THE TYN-Y-COED!

On the 3rd of December, Tyn-y-Coed welcomed you to their very first Christmas light switch-on event. The Tyn-y-Coed is Zip World’s cosy hotel and pub, featuring a roaring log fire and situated on the foot of Moel Siabod in Capel Curig. This special event was held in aid of Ogwen Mountain Rescue, a non-profit organisation that assists the Police and Ambulance authorities with rough terrain search and rescue in Northern Snowdonia.

If you’ve passed the Tyn-y-Coed you may have noticed the enormous tree that towers over the car park. A few days prior to the event, it took 9 hours for 5 people to put all 10,000 fairy lights up the impressive 103ft tree!

Before the light switch on, a local brass band played inside the pub as people arrived ready for the main event. At 7pm, the impressive lights were turned on by Sean Taylor and famous Welsh climber Eric Jones. Born in North Wales, Eric Jones’s long list of achievements include being the first Brit to solo ascend the north face of the Eiger, as well as being the first person to BASE jump from the Eiger. It was a pleasure to have him join us.

We also welcomed Côr y Penrhyn, who provided some stunning entertainment in the form of Welsh and English Christmas carols. Seasonal food and drinks were available inside the warm pub, as well as bauble decorating and Christmas letter writing, helping put families in the festive spirit.

The event was a huge success, and we are very proud to have been able to assist Ogwen Mountain Rescue in raising vital funds for the important work they do all year round. We’d like to say a massive thank you to those involved in the planning and of course, to those of you who joined us for this wonderful evening.
