We are introducing some exciting changes and new elements to our Deep Mine Tour at Zip World Llechwedd! The timeless stories of this mine will now be told like never before as Llechwedd’s history comes to life with an interactive and immersive journey through time.
Venture deep underground on Europe’s steepest cable railway and into the mining past of the local area. Enjoy a guided tour 500ft below ground in one of the world’s most famous slate mines. Our expert local guide will walk you through an entirely reimagined and regenerated Deep Mine Tour, soaking in the history as you explore 10 awe-inspiring slate chambers. This adventure for all ages is a great way for everyone to appreciate the history behind a Welsh slate mine.
Each step of this journey has been developed to really immerse visitors in the heart and soul of the site and the miners’ story and we’re proud to breathe new life into the tour. The new interactive elements will help you discover and feel just what life was like in the past for a miner as you push a miner’s wagon along the tracks and use authentic Victorian mining tools such as hand drills. The all-new AV and projection will help you visualise the story and allow you to meet a miner from the past. End your tour with a magical light show over a majestic underground lake accompanied by the sounds of real miners singing your farewell.
We don’t want to give too many secrets away so we will let you experience this newly improved tour for yourself. Any Deep Mine Tour bookings made for the 5th of April 2025 onwards will experience these exciting new features and learn the Llechwedd tale in a way never told before. Due to the unique environment, to take part in the tour, you must be of good walking ability for safety reasons and remember to wear suitable clothes and footwear.
